South East Voluntary & Classic Challenge Championships

Guildford Spectrum once again hosted the South East Voluntary & Classic Challenge Championships, taking place across the weekend of 28th & 29th October 2023. Eight Woking gymnasts took part, coming away with a vast array of medals in what was a tremendously successful competition for Woking Gymnastics Club.

Sunday began with the Voluntary 2 competition featuring Kimberley Ly. Kimmie demonstrated elegance and excellence as she navigated her way to an outstanding all-around title, becoming the new Regional Champion for Voluntary 2. In addition to all-around gold and the Voluntary 2 Trophy, she also won gold on Bars and Beam, with silver on Vault and Floor, setting the tone for Woking’s competition.

Nicole Murdzhanova, competing at the Voluntary 4 level, also had a fantastic competition. Showing a mix of poise and power, Nicole finished 4th all-around in a tightly contested event. However, Nicole would leave with ample silverware, earning bronze on Bars, Beam and Floor – another superb result for Team Woking

Three of Woking’s youngest competitors were also competing, this time at Voluntary 5. Despite being relatively new to the competitive scene, Aissa Costea, Isabella Edgar & Annabelle Chau showed a high degree of composure as they delivered great routines to win a team Silver medal. Individual silver medals for Aissa on Beam and Annabelle on Floor underlined the impressive performance from the gymnasts, at the start of their gymnastics journey’s.

In the final round, it was the turn of Heidi Woodhatch, Mia Vernon & Bella-Rae Cheeseman-Wheeler, competing in the packed Bronze competition. In a field of almost 50 gymnasts, all three from Woking shone bright and quickly rose towards the top of the standings. In their age category, Mia finished an impressive 4th, with Bella 5th, with Mia’s scores enough to finish top 10 all-around across all age groups,

finishing above gymnasts many years her senior.

Bella posted the 2nd highest score on bars, with Heidi

posting the 3rd highest score on bars, across all ages, earning silver and bronze medals respectively. Mia, following a quite remarkable ‘save’ on bars, finished just 0.1 behind the medals.

Overall, Team Woking had a fantastic outing, bringing home 15 medals across 4 levels as well as the new Voluntary 2 Regional Champion. A big thankyou and well done to all of our gymnasts, parents and coaches.
